Laser engraving machines have brought a highly revolutionary change in the art of etching and engraving. It has made engraving an instant procedure, with ease of operation, through digital programming. By engraving, we are likely to think of sculpture or artistic woodwork. However, in fact, our everyday life too is very much touched by this kind of engraving work.
The best examples include computing keyboard buttons, pads of mobile phones, electronic switches, bathroom fittings, and what not. Laser marked products have thus become a part of our lives in every way. The reason behind this demand for usage of laser engraving equipment can be found in the following advantages it has on offer:
* Ease of use
The engraving machines are very easy to use because they are computer operated, and there is no need of touching the material on which you wish to engrave.
* No mess or damage
Since the entire process is often done using laser beams, it means a far less mess and absolutely no damage or wear and tear of the material on which the engraving is being performed.
* Flexible
Laser beams can be used on any material is it wood, metal, plastic or anything. Besides this, these beams can be used to mark on subtly sized objects and hard to reach places.
* Time efficient
Laser engraving machines thus save a lot of time and effort of the manufacturer and labourers and provide a cost effective solution for businesspersons.
* Permanent
The laser marking performed using the technology of the engraving machines is eco-friendly, durable and permanent in nature. The marking does not get affected by water, weather or chemicals.
Considering the above advantages, it is highly understandable by laser technology is so sought after venture. No wonder it has touched our lives in every aspect and inspired efficiency of use for different objects in every way.
The types of laser engraving machines
The engraving machines have three categories: Machines with the stationary workpiece, with the cylindrical workpiece and others with the stationary workpiece and lasers. The first type (with stationary workpiece) is also called X-Y table where the laser is made to move in X-Y direction. The second genre contains movable workpiece with a stationary workpiece. The laser moves along a helical path. In the third type, both laser and workpiece are movable.
How laser engraving equipment works
When the laser is made to pass over the surface or workpiece in engraver machine, it gathers energy and heats up. This vaporizes the surface material, thereby, removing a part of it. This engraves the required pattern on the surface.
Many patterns are engraved on the surface. This can be done by programming the controller. The path to be traversed is saved in the controller. The change in speed and intensity of beam also changes the design engraved.
All you can engrave and why
Using the machines, we can engrave not only wood and metals but also plastic, stone, and glass. These machines have been of great use to jewellers. Sub- Surface Laser Engraving is another application where patterns are engraved on a transparent solid material. Flexographic plates and cylinders engraving, laser imaging, Anilox rolls engraving are some other applications.
